Sweetness
Sweetness
Most people think that there is a simple debate between normal and artificial sugar, but it is not that simple.
Here are the simple facts:
There are all kinds of sugars, more than just two and they are all so different.
On the artificial side there is saccharin (sweet n low), aspartame (equal), Sucralose (Splenda), stevia leaf extract, sugar alcohols, Neotame, and Acesulfame potassium.
On the true sugar side we have refined (white), honey, syrup, agave nectar, molasses, corn syrup (normal and high fructose); there are also many different forms of natural sugar such as sugar in the raw, coconut sugar, etc. There are also a couple of chemically isolated sugars like maltose, galactose or xylose.
The only sugar without any problems whatsoever is natural sugars that aren’t added to anything. Basically, if you can eat it straight from the plant, it’s going to be ok.
Here is what I think about all this:
Now something to remember is everyone is different. There is not 1 thing that works perfect for everyone. another thing to remember is, everyone is going to just stop eating sweet things. we like sugar and that’s ok! If we just tell the world to stop eating sweet things, nothing would happen. There is already all sorts of media, documentaries and books telling us how bad these things are for us, yet we still consume them all the time.
We pit normal and artificial sugar against each other and say “artificial sugar is better” “no, real(added) sugar is”. here is a fact, neither are good for us. The large amounts of added sugar the average American eats is extremely unhealthy, and studies have shown that artificial sugars can cause different health problems. Now, if you want to be perfect, don’t have either, but about .05% of people will legitimately do that.
As I said earlier, everyone is different. Some people genuinely have an overwhelmingly hard time keeping their weight at an average level if they don’t have the option of artificial sugars. Type 2 diabetics, I will always prefer artificial sugars to added sugars for them. People with a history of cancer in their family, I am not going to recommend artificial sugars for them. everyone is different.
If you want advice, my advice is to do your best. If that means completely cutting out all of this, that is amazing! if that means that you will drink more water instead of soda, that is amazing too!
all we can do is our best.
